About ZIP Code Demographics

ZIP Code Demographics exists to answer a simple question well: what does the U.S. Census Bureau actually say about this ZIP code? Local data is usually presented either as an unsourced ranking on a marketing site or as a raw government table that few readers can parse. We publish the middle layer — complete, sourced, plainly explained demographic profiles of America's largest ZIP Code Tabulation Areas, with state and national context on every page.

Our Editorial Team

The ZIP Code Demographics Editorial Team researches, generates and reviews every page on this site. Our workflow is deliberately mechanical where it should be: a documented script parses the Census Bureau's published summary files, computes only the derived shares and comparisons described on the methodology page, and renders each profile from those figures, so the words on a page can never drift from the data underneath them. Editors then review samples page by page against the source tables, check geography assignments against the Bureau's relationship file, and maintain the learning library that explains the survey, its geography and its limits.

We hold three editorial rules. First, single-source discipline: if the Census Bureau does not publish it, we do not print it — no modeled incomes, no scraped listings, no borrowed estimates. Second, honest geography: every profile names its ZCTA, its main county and the fact that a ZCTA approximates rather than equals a ZIP Code. Third, dated attribution: every data page carries its source line with the dataset vintage and retrieval date, so a reader returning in a year can tell exactly which release a figure came from.

Methodology

Our data is the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS) 2020–2024 5-year estimates: total population (table B01003), median age (B01002), race (B02001), Hispanic origin (B03003), educational attainment (B15003), median household income (B19013), per-capita income (B19301), employment status (B23025), households (B11001), median gross rent (B25064) and median home value (B25077), with ZCTA-to-county and state assignment and land area from the Bureau's 2020 ZCTA relationship file. ZIP Code Tabulation Areas are the Census Bureau's statistical areas approximating ZIP codes; they are built from census blocks and are not exact USPS boundaries. The full method, including suppression and top-code handling, is documented on our methodology page.

What This Site Is Not

We are not affiliated with the U.S. Census Bureau or the U.S. Postal Service, we do not sell data or mailing lists, and our figures are survey estimates for research and general information — not a substitute for the Bureau's own tools when a legal, lending or grant decision depends on a number. Within those limits, we aim to be the clearest ZIP-level demographic reference on the web.

How to read these figures: every number on this page is a survey estimate from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey, not a complete count. Estimates carry margins of error, and a ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA) only approximates the matching USPS ZIP Code. See our methodology page before citing any figure.
